The eighth edition of the Artificial Intelligence Index Report was published last month. Published on an annual basis, the purpose of the document is to provide accurate, strict recognition and source data globally to readers to give AI’s progress and insight into its potential impact on society. The co-director of the 2025 report is Yolanda Gill and Raymond Perouult.
The report includes eight chapters, covering: research and development, technical operations, responsible AI, economy, vigor and pharmaceutical and medicine, policy, education and public opinion. The authors have chosen 12 key techways, and these are as follows:
- AI operations are improving on the benchmark with demand. The performance of advanced AI systems has increased sharply on the new benchmark released in 2023. AI systems also made a big pace in producing high quality video.
- AI is increasingly embedded in everyday life. In 2023, the FDA (in the US) approved 223 AI-enabled medical devices, which are more than six in 2015. On the roads, Wemo, one of the largest US operators, provides more than 150,000 autonomous rides per week, while bydu’s affordable Apollo Go Robot AX Qasi fleet now serves numerous cesses from China.
- The business is on AI, fuel record investment and consumption, as research shows strong productivity effects. In 2024, US private AI’s investment increased to 109.1D, China. The Generative AI has seen a strong momentum, which attracts 9 33.9 billion globally in private investment – an increase of 18.7% than 2023. AI is also accelerating business usage: 78% of organizations reported in 2024, which was 55% a year ago.
- The USA still leads to the construction of top AI models delts, but China is shutting down the exhibition distance. In 2024, US -based organizations created 40 noticed AI models compared to China’s 15 and three in Europe. When the USA retains its lead in quantity, Chinese models have closed quality distance quickly: the performance differences on large benchmarks such as MMLU and Humanval are narrow in 2023 to close equality. China moves in AI publications and patents. Model development is increasingly global with significant projection from the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia.
- The responsible AI ecosystem develops unevenly. Although AI -related events are increasing rapidly, certified RAI evaluation is rarely among the major industrial dysfunctional model developers. In companies, the distance between RAI’s risks and taking meaningful steps continues. On the contrary, governments are showing increasing urgency: in 2024, global cooperation on AI governance intensified, including organizations, including OECD, EU, UN and African Union, framework focused on transparency, credibility and other major responsible AI principles.
- Global AI optimism is on the rise, but Deep is a regional division pending. In countries such as China (%83%), Indonesia (%5%) and Thailand (%77%), the strong majority AI products and services look more beneficial than harmful. In contrast, optimism is very low in places like Canada (40%), United States (39%) and Netherlands (36%).
- AI becomes more efficient, affordable and accessible. Powered by more and more capable small models, the estimate for the performance of the GPT -3.5, the estimated cost of 2022 and October Catber 2024 dropped by 280 -folds between November 2024.
- With regulation and investment, governments are moving on AI. In 2024, the US Federal agencies introduced 59 AI-related rules-which are more than double the number in 2023 and have been doubled by many agencies. Globally, AI’s legal mention increased 21.3% in 2023 to 75 countries, showing a nine -fold increase since 2016.
- AI and Computer Vision Education Education is expanding – but accesses are gaps in sex and readiness. Two-thirds of countries now provide or provide K-12CS education, which is twice as much as 2019.
- The industry is moving in AI, but the border is tightening. About 90% of significant AI models came from industries in 2024, which is more than 60% in 2023, while academia is the top source of high -cited research.
- AI gains a top honor for its impact on the Vijayan. Increased importance of AI is reflected in the main rewards: two Nobel Prize, which led to Deep Learning (Physics) and led protein folding (chemistry) to its application, while reinforcement in the Turing Awards was contributed to groundbreaking.
- Complex logic remains a challenge. AI models are best in tasks such as international mathematical Olympiad problems but still struggles with complex logic benchmarks like Planbench. They often fail to reliably solve the tasks of logic, when appropriate solutions exist, limiting their effectiveness in high-drug settings where precision is crucial.
